The first generation of available artificial tears were just simple lubricants. The second generation added hyaluronate for staying power. Then in the third generation, ingredients were added to help with the ocular surface, either adding a lipid, or an osmoprotectant, such as the trehalose in Thealoz® Duo. And Thealoz® Duo is preservative free, making it unique compared to the competitors.
